Although the Disney Store carries a range of Halloween costumes for infants and toddlers, girls and boys, and even adults, the most sought-after outfits usually are ones from Disney’s film hits of the year. A Disney Store executive says the 2011 season is shaping up to follow that trend.
Rapunzel costumes are expected to be the top seller for girls again this year, said Mark Villalovos, senior manager for guest experience at Disney Stores. Rapunzel was introduced to Disney audiences when “Tangled” debuted on screens at Thanksgiving. It certainly can’t hurt that Disney’s darling is set to be crowned an official Disney Princess in a lavish ceremony in London on Oct. 2.
Villalovos said Spider-Man and Captain America costumes — being promoted by Disney because of its acquisition of Marvel Comics — should be hits with boys. “Captain America” was one of this summer’s movies, and a new version of “Spider-Man” comes out in 2012.
Two popular franchises, Disney Princesses and Pirates of the Caribbean, are also represented in the stores and online. Of course, classic costumes, such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and the Toy Story characters, also are available for trick-or-treating.
